Caribbean Rights is a publication of the Independent Jamaican Council for Human Rights (1998) Ltd. (IJCHR) as a part of its human rights education initiative. It is funded by a grant from the British High Commission.
The IJCHR is the oldest non-governmental human rights organization in the Caribbean. It was first formed on December 10, 1968, the 20th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, under the name Jamaica Council for Human Rights. In 1998 the organization re-incorporated under its present name.
Over the past Forty-Four years the IJCHR has advocated for Constitutional and legislative reform in several areas of human rights in Jamaica and provided legal representation before the Courts for cases that fall within our remit.
